County Legislature Votes for Non-lethal Control

Rockland County - The Rockland County Legislature voted 16-1 last night to adopt a policy mandating that Canada goose conflicts on county lands be solved exclusively with non-lethal methods of control.

Championed by Legislators Ken Zebrowski and Harriet Cornell, the resolution was framed around the award winning county publication entitled "Non-lethal Controls for 'Resident' Canada geese." After having served many communities throughout the country, it is fitting that this report has finally received the recognition it deserves where it was created.

In light of the failed attempts to control geese using lethal control in Clarkstown (one of Rockland County's five towns), the legislature's endorsement and support for humane, environmentally friendly, effective, non-lethal goose control is not too surprising. In Clarkstown, effective goose control could only be achieved by discontinuing the killing programs and implementing a non-lethal control program.
